PoE++ for
Hey, friends who are in security, today let’s talk about PoE++’s affairs in the access control system! Have you also encountered headaches such as troubles in installing and wiring in the access control system, unstable power supply of equipment, and insufficient power to carry new equipment? Then this PoE++ technology is really a good choice to solve these problems!
What is PoE++?
PoE++, the full name is Power over Plus Plus, it sounds quite a bit of a mouth-wrinkle, right? Simply put, it is a technology that can transmit data and electricity simultaneously through network cables, and it is an enhanced and upgraded version of PoE technology. Compared with the previous PoE and PoE+, the most awesome thing about PoE++ is that it can provide greater power output. In this way, devices with relatively high power consumption, such as access control machines with face recognition, multi-door controllers, etc., can directly rely on one network cable to obtain power supply and network connection, which saves a lot of trouble!
Regarding the power standards of PoE++, there are clear regulations (from IEEE 802.3bu standard):
1. Type 3 (PoE++): It is divided into two levels. 3A is 30W, and 3B can reach 60W!
2. Type 4 (PoE++): This is even more powerful. Under the 4PPoE standard, it can provide power output up to 90W, which is not scary!
The benefits of PoE++ to access control systems
Using PoE++ to build an access control system is a lot of benefits. I'll count it for you:
It was super convenient to install : in the past, I had to pull the data cable and the power cable, and holes were made everywhere on the wall, which made me feel upset. Now, you can get all the network cables done, the construction speed is raised up, and the labor cost can be reduced a lot. Isn’t it great?
The power supply is as stable as the old dog : PoE++ switches generally have redundant power supply designs. Even if there is a problem with the power supply on one road, the other road can be immediately raised, and the access control system will not suddenly "strike", full of security!
Support more advanced devices : like the popular face recognition access control and access control terminals with temperature detection, these guys have good power consumption. The old PoE cannot be carried at all, and PoE++ can easily be controlled. There is no need to worry about upgrading equipment in the future!
Remote management and monitoring : Through the PoE switch, you can remotely view the power supply and working status of each access control device. If there is a problem with which device, you can immediately discover it. It is also convenient to repair it, so you don’t have to go to the scene to see it one by one.
Provide global procurement services for weak current intelligent products!
Access control system uses PoE++, so you have to pay attention to these things
It is good to wear, but some details need to be paid attention to, otherwise it may go wrong:
1. When choosing a switch, you need to see clearly :
1) Is the power sufficient: According to the total power of your access control equipment, choose the corresponding PoE++ switch type. Don’t buy it if it is small and can’t carry it, and don’t buy it too much and waste money.
2) Is there any VLAN function: Access control system data is very important. Use VLAN to isolate access control equipment from other networks, which is more secure.
3) Is it an intelligent management type: An intelligent network management switch can perform port speed limit and traffic monitoring, making it more flexible in management.
2. You can't be careless about the network cable :
You must use a network cable of over 5 or above. It is recommended that you use a Category 6 or over 6 network cable, which has a long transmission distance and good stability.
The network cable impedance must be correct, usually 100 ohms, don't make mistakes and affect transmission.
The crystal head must be done well. Poor contact can be a big problem and will cause intermittent!
3. Equipment (compatibility) must be checked :
Although PoE++ is backward compatible, it is best to confirm that your access control controller and card reader do not support PoE++ power supply standards. Don’t buy it and it will be embarrassing if you can’t use it.
Access Control System PoE++ FAQ Q&A
Q1: I used an ordinary PoE switch with access control. Can I directly switch it to a PoE++ switch?
A1: In most cases, PoE++ switches are generally backward compatible, but you have to see if the original access control equipment supports "UL Class 2" or wide voltage input, and whether the network cable can withstand power transmission of 60W or above. It is best to test it on the safe side!
Q2: How far is the power supply distance of PoE++?
A2: Like ordinary PoE, the limit distance is about 100 meters, but in order to ensure stability and power, it is recommended not to exceed 90 meters when used. If the distance is too far, you can add a PoE repeater or use optical fiber to transmit.
Q3: In thunderstorms, are PoE++ access control equipment afraid of being hit by lightning?
A3: Fear! Surely afraid! Therefore, it is necessary to install a special surge (surge protector) between the PoE switch and the front-end device, and the grounding must be done well, so that the risk of lightning damage can be greatly reduced!
Personal opinion
PoE++ technology is definitely a revolutionary advance for access control systems, which can make the system more stable, simpler to install, and more convenient to expand equipment in the future. If you are planning to build a new access control system or transform an old system, I sincerely recommend that you consider the PoE++ solution! Of course, when planning in the early stage, you must calculate the power, select the right equipment, and arrange the lines, so that the advantages of PoE++ can be maximized!
